Friday 24 March is World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, marked across the world to increase public awareness of the disease and to push for improved and faster progress to end the TB epidemic by 2030. Tuberculosis is a deadly infectious disease that has been around for thousands of years, causing a devastating effect on individuals and communities. Despite TB being preventable and curable, in...
On Tuesday 7 March, campaigners came together for an empowering grassroots conference call that shed light on the personal stories behind the statistics of Tuberculosis (TB), held in anticipation of World TB Day on Friday 24 March and the UN High-Level Meeting on TB in September. The call was both inspiring and informative as Caroline Mburu, a young TB champion and survivor, shared her experience of overcoming TB and becoming an advocate to end the stigma surrounding the disease.
In the run up to World TB Day (24 March) and the UN's High-Level meeting on TB in September, we're ramping up our advocacy efforts to end tuberculosis (TB). A deadly but curable disease, TB has killed millions of people in the last few years and sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the progress made in eradicating the disease. In our February conference call, we heard from our expert colleagues Vinny Wooding, Senior Parliamentary Advocacy Officer on TB, and Sahera Ramzan, Senior Policy...
To kick-start our campaigning in 2023 and in line with our January action, our first conference call of the year was focused on taking a step back to reflect on the bigger picture of campaigning and being part of RESULTS. We heard from our new CEO, Kitty Arie, who talked about some of the highlights of RESULTS' advocacy in 2022, our new strategy and some upcoming advocacy moments in 2023.
The highlight of the call was hearing from our guest speaker, Sue Tibballs, OBE, who has over 25...
This month, our grassroots campaign action is to hold the UK Government accountable for its deprioritisation of poverty reduction – including reducing its spending on Official Development Assistance (ODA), with risks of even further cuts in actual poverty reduction programmes. Our expert guest speaker, Richard Watts , Senior Advisor on Development Finance at...
Poverty - however you choose to define it - has long been a part of the human experience, as have efforts to eradicate it. Just over a week ago, many of us joined the United Nations in marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (on Monday 17 October), a day which can be traced back to 1987. Yet efforts to eradicate poverty far out-date this. For as long as there has been poverty and inequality in society, it’s probably a given that there have been people trying to tackle it...

During World Immunization Week (24-30 April), people around the world come together to highlight the importance of vaccines and how they protect us against diseases. So, for World Immunisation Week, at RESULTS, we have reflected on the advocacy we’re doing around vaccines, why it’s important, and what it’s got to do with an end to poverty.
On World TB Day 2022, this blog seeks to amplify some stories and experiences from TB patients, healthcare workers and advocates across Kenya, to raise awareness of one of the deadliest infectious diseases and advocacy efforts to #EndTB. We touch upon some of the meetings, briefings, photographs and videos provided to parliamentarians in a recent 'virtual trip' to Kenya.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, RESULTS UK regularly took delegations of parliamentarians to...
Our March grasroots conference call delved into the reasons why we must continue our campaigning to end tuberculosis (TB). We were joined by guest speaker Dr. Uvistra Naidoo, a paediatrician in Capetown, South Africa with a special interest in childhood TB. Uvi contracted a severe form of multi-drug resistant TB during his medical residency which took him over three years to be cured. He provided a powerful insight into the world of TB both as a survivor of the disease and as a...
Our 2022 February conference call provided great insight into the world of vaccine development. The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is a global partnership to accelerate the development of vaccines against emerging infectious diseases and to enable equitable access to these vaccines during outbreaks. This was a new topic for a lot of our Grassroots network, and is often a topic which is shrouded in...
